The Lazy daisy stitch, step by step

We guide you here, step by step, to embroider the Lazy daisy stitch.
This foundational stitch forms a single loop anchored by a straight stitch, creating a rounded, lightweight decorative element.
1 – Form the loop
Bring the needle up at A. Hold the thread under your thumb. Insert the needle back into the same point A. Bring the needle up at B, a few millimetres below, keeping the thread under the needle. Pull gently to obtain a regular loop.
2 – Anchor the loop
Insert the needle at C, just below the tip of the loop. Pull carefully. Pass the thread to the back of the fabric. Secure under the stitches already worked.

FOR RIGHT-HANDED EMBROIDERERS: Hold the needle in your right hand. Rest your left thumb on the thread to keep the loop in place as you bring the needle up at B.
FOR LEFT-HANDED EMBROIDERERS: Hold the needle in your left hand. Rest your right thumb on the thread to keep the loop in place as you bring the needle up at B.

Tips for a perfect lazy daisy stitch

Tip 1

Precise entry point: Always insert the needle into the same hole to obtain a consistent formation.

Tip 2

Thread tension: Pull carefully to preserve the roundness of the motif.

Tip 3

Thread direction: Keep the thread under the needle throughout the entire formation phase.

Tip 4

Anchor placement: Position it along the axis of the tip for a balanced result.

Tip 5

Consistency: Repeat the motion evenly to produce well-proportioned lazy daisy stitches.

Result

On the front: A rounded loop held by a straight stitch, forming a light, isolated motif.

On the back: A small, discreet stitch corresponding to the thread anchor.
